Miracle On The Hudson

Miracle On The Hudson- On November 3rd and 4th, I had the honor and pleasure of providing sound and audio/visual support for Dave Sanderson. He spoke to two groups on behalf of The American Red Cross Carolinas. On Monday evening, the event was held at Rick Erwin's newest restaurant http://www.greenvilleonline.com/story/off-the-menu/2014/10/20/rick-erwins-clemson-restaurant-opens-this-week/17609035/.

Tuesday morning's event was in the dining room of Rick Erwin's Nantucket Seafood (http://rickerwins.com/nantucket-seafood/).

Sarah Locke, the director of sales at Rick Erwin's. and her staff were amazing. They were professional, personable and accomodating. Of course, the food and service were perfect! https://www.facebook.com/sarah.e.locke.3?fref=ts

Dave was the last passenger to exit US Airways flight 1549 after the emergency landing in the Hudson River after both engines were destroyed by a gaggle of geese. He stayed in the icey cold water to make certain all other passengers were safe before finding safety for himself.

Of all the components that contributed to the rescue, The American Red Cross provided services which meant the most. http://www.redcross.org/sc/nc

Dave's book, Brace for Impact!, recounts the amazing story. http://davesandersonspeaks.com/brace-for-impact/

If you ever have the opportunity to hear Dave speak live, be certain not to miss it! http://davesandersonspeaks.com/

Choosing a Best Man

This is a topic that many of my grooms agonize over. This is an important decision because there are certain duties ascribed to the position of best man. Here is a link to an article at "Pop-up Weddings" to help you, the groom, sort out this big decision:

We enjoy grooms that take an active meaningful role in the wedding planning process. Let us know how we may help you.

This Groom Has Got It Goin' On!

I was talking with a friend who is about to celebrate his 1 year anniversary.

He asked, "Do you think it is a good idea for me to contact the same florist that did our wedding and have her put together a flower bouquet that incorporates components from our floral designs used at our wedding?"

I told him "That is a phenomenal idea!"

It will help take both the bride and groom right back to that very special moment in time. The mind is very powerful. Through familiar scents, sites and songs, we can be instantly transported back to a memorable occasion from our past. That will open the conversation about all of the beautiful events that happened on their wedding day.

A seemingly simple, romantic act....

Guests Choose Whether the Bride or Groom Gets Wedding Cake In The Face!

At a recent wedding reception for Corey & Kaitlin Jones, they had a very cute idea. The money dance is often a very awkward event to include at a wedding reception. Their novel idea replaced it with something fun for all guests. Kaitlin and Corey had 2 decorative jars on the gift table: One labeled "Him"; One labeled "Her". Guests were asked to "vote" for which one of them would get cake in the face by putting money in the respective jars. Of course, Corey "won". The guests loved it. (And Corey & Kaitlin had some extra honeymoon money) I have some ideas to take that up about 2 levels!

People Don't Want "Mediocre". They want "Wow"!

Carolina Party Professionals hosted a fantastic Christmas party for an international shipping expediting company last night in Atlanta, GA! I was a bit nervous going in- different, much bigger market- They were actually thinking about giving up on having a DJ due to poor experiences in the past. By the end of the night, many guests were saying "That was the best Christmas Party we have ever had!" Two ladies said "We have been here 15 years- that was the most fun we ever had!" Thank you Peter Merry. Thank you Mark Ferrell. Thank you Scott Faver. Thank you Randy Bartlett. Thank you Todd Mitchem!

National Recording Artist SIngs at Local Wedding

June 30, 2012 at Occasions at Wedgefield, I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Christian artist Mark Harris, formerly of 4Him. He and his family are truly beautiful people. He shared his gifts and talents with friends and family at the wedding of Dustin and Courtney Knapp, having been a long time friend of Courtney's family. He sang "Find Your Wings" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4NS7gChzvk for the seating of the mothers and "When We're Together" http://www.godtube.com/watch/?v=F2F1JFNU for Dustin & Courtney's first dance. He also sang "An Offering..." as a duet with his daughter, who has an amazing voice as well. When Courtney took her walk to the altar, Mark sang "Love Is Worth Falling For".  "Find Your Wings" is an excellent song for a Groom's dance with his mother or a Bride's dance with her father! He sang several other selections as well. Thank you, Mark, for sharing your wonderful gift!

DJ Ruins a Wedding Reception

As a disc jockey and master of ceremonies, I sometimes take for granted that clients are used to a high level of service. The truth is that most people are not accustomed to planning a wedding. Therefore, they have no idea of the differences in djs or the difference a great dj can make at their party. Certain errors in judgment can cause what would otherwise be a tremendous party to be a lack-luster event.

Last night, I had the pleasure of providing my services for Greg and Angela Stabler (Formerly Angela Marvin). The wedding ceremony and reception was held at Occasions at Wedgefield in Central, SC. I prepared for the event with my customary tools and extensive meeting process. While in progress. I thought the party was "pretty good". Everyone seemed to be having a good time.

After the final dance, when I invited the guests outdoors to send off Angela and Greg with a bubble shower, one of the ladies stopped me and said, "I wish I had known you earlier." Of course I asked, "Why is that?" She said, "My daughter was recently married in Florence, SC. Our dj was good. But he was no where near as wonderful as you. Thank you for a fantastic event." I thanked her and proceeded with the send-off for Greg and Angela.

After the exit of the bride and groom, another lady re-entered the building and visited my table where I was gathering my notes and preparing to pack while the background music was playing. She said, "I wish I could have had you for my daughter's wedding." You made such a difference in this event! You kept the event alive- and it was personalized with memorable items for the bride and groom. You were fantastic! We wanted everything perfect for my baby girl's wedding: the food was wonderful, the venue was beautiful, the cake was delicious. But, the dj was terrible." She continued with, "After all of those wonderful things, the only comments I heard were 'the dj was horrible'." I asked how she selected the dj. She told me that it was a friend of a friend. She said, "The sad part was that we wanted everything to be perfect. Money was no object. We simply made a bad selection." I apologized for her bad experience, assured her that there were great, professional djs available, and told her 'thank you' for her compliments. She asked for a business card and assured me that she would tell everyone about the wonderful time she had ot Greg and Angela's event.

Another guest approached the wedding director, Cynthia Phillips of Your Wedding Lady. I heard her say, "Keep him close. He made this event perfect." That one caused a tear in my eyes. I want every single wedding to be perfect.

Finally, after everyone left, I was moving my equipment to the sidewalk in order to pack it in the van. The mother of the bride showed up with friends to help collect the remaining items. After they finished, they got in their cars to leave. I was halfway up the sidewalk when I heard the mother of the bride call, "George".

I turned and said, "Yes ma'am?" She said, "You are the best wedding dj ever!" I said, "Thank you." She replied, "No. Thank YOU!"

Greg and Angela can look back on this day for a long time. And maybe, just maybe, thinking of their dj will make them smile. I hope so!

Melissa & Woody Crenshaw March 17, 2012

When Melissa called me last year about scheduling her date, she said "I have several dates chosen. I just want to make sure I can get you as the dj and Magnolia Studios as my photographer. I am flexible on everything else."  It didn't sink in right away. But, a few minutes after I hung up the phone, it hit me. She was scheduling her date around the dj and photographer she wanted. I was humbled at that thought.

Melissa and Woody were a fantastic bride and groom to work with. We planned and personalized everything to their wishes.

Todd and Jon at Magnolia Studios captured every special moment beautifully AND without ever being obtrusive.

They were fun, engaging and professional.

Rare Artistry Provides Classy, Unique Gift For Guests At Weddings!

Last night, I had the pleasure of being the Master of Ceremonies and Disc Jockey for the wedding and reception of Woody Crenshaw & Melissa Whittaker.

The event took place at Augusta Manor in Greenville, SC. The main colors were black and white (with just a hint of green for St. Patrick's Day).

As a special surprise gift, guests were provided with a silhouette of themselves.

Silhouettes were once the most popular means of capturing a likeness until the invention of the camera. Many families upheld the tradition of hanging silhouettes in their homes for generations, which kept the art alive. And now, as professional quality photos have become more easily attainable with technology, the silhouette is regaining its popularity as a truly rare and treasured work of art. Not only may this art be performed within minutes, the subject becomes the theme of their own original art, both beautiful and sentimental.

Patti Rischforth, a local artist, produced each amazing piece of art in only 3-5 minutes for each guest. Guests would sit in front of Patti's table as she worked her magic with scissors, a special black matte paper, a keen attention to detail, and unparalleled hand-eye coordination. Once complete, the piece was placed in a custom designed keepsake folio comemorating the wedding day. Patti created these folios with the names of the bride and groom as well as her drawing of Melissa's actual bridal gown! Not only did Patti create one silhouette, but 2 at a time! The second was placed in an album which she then had the guest to sign and write a note to Melissa and Woody!

This was truly a classy, elegant and very unique touch to an already beautiful event.

It was fun and exciting to see the guest's faces light up with delightful surprise when they were presented with their gift!

My scans of the silhouette she created for me as well as the cover adorn this article.

Popular Songs For Mother - Son Dances

I am asked quite frequently to suggest appropriate songs for the wedding day. The most difficult song to choose for most newly-weds is surprisingly not the first dance or the bride and father dance. It is the groom-mother dance. No matter how many songs we go through there are 12 that seem to be the most requested:

  1. What A Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong
  2. Have I Told You Lately - Rod Stewart or Van Morrison
  3. Song For Mama - Boyz II Men
  4. My Wish - Rascal Flatts
  5. In My Life - The Beatles
  6. Through The Years - Kenny Rogers
  7. Unforgettable - Nat King Cole
  8. Because You Loved Me - Celine Dion
  9. The Way You Look Tonight - Frank Sinatra
  10. You Raise Me Up - Josh Groban
  11. Wind Beneath My Wings - Bette Midler
  12. You've Got A Friend - James Taylor
Always remember: The best song for this special moment is the one you like the best. The song that means the most to you or best defines your special bond is the song you should use.

2009 Winter Wedding Festivals Show in Anderson

The Wedding Festivals staff held true to their word "The Show Must Go On" for the January 30th Bridal Show, even though the weather did not cooperate. The show still had all of the class and style the Wedding Festivals group is known for providing. I believe we had between 150 and 200 brides visit the event. It was a pleasure to speak with so many brides and grooms, along with their mothers, families and best friends.

Lots of wonderful local vendors participated, including one of my favorite event facilities in South Carolina, Occasions At Wedgefield (http://www.occasionsatwedgefield.com). Occasions is located on Eighteen Mile Road, just off Highway 123 between Easley and Clemson. Andrew was there with his famous ice carved shrimp dispenser. Occasions has also opened a sister facility near Seneca called Palmetto Ridge.

At the close of the show, Wedding Festivals gave away a wonderful Carnival Cruise to a lucky bride-to-be. Carolina Party Professionals had two lucky winners in our booth give-away: Jessica Lane won some awesome dance lessons for 2 from Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Greenville (http://www.dancearthurmurray-sc.com/) and Stephanie Smith won a massage from Zen Bodywork in Simpsonville.

The mock wedding by Wedding Festivals was phenomenal, as usual. Their decor was complimented with uplighting by Better Tie Productions. Inspite of the ice outside the atmosphere was warm inside. From my perspective, all the vendors and brides had a great time. Carolina Party Professionals enjoyed meeting so many people as well as making a few new friends.

The New Mr & Mrs Hale

Jonathan Griffin Hale

&

Lorraine Chua

were married

Saturday September 26th, 2009

Carolina Party Professionals had the honor of providing sound reinforcement for their wedding keyboardist as well as a dj, master of ceremonies, music and entertainment for their reception. This classic wedding was held outside at the home of Mr. Hale's parents in Honea Path, SC.

Luckily, the bride & groom rented a tent, because the rain was relentless. Regardless of the rain, everyone had a fun evening.

Before exiting, several people thanked George and told him what a wonderful time they had. The bride and groom said, "Twenty people told us this was the best wedding they had ever been to"!

It was a true pleasure to work with this wonderful couple and their guests.
